Issuance of Certificate of Approval

 The fee payable for the initial issuance of a certificate of approval for structural or outfitting components or for safety equipment is $400, and the fee payable for each renewal of the certificate of approval is $200.

PART VExamination of Plans

Examination or Approval of Plans and Other Documents

  •  (1) Subject to subsections (2) and 22.1(2) and section 22.2, the fee payable for the examination or approval of a first submission of each plan, each diagrammatic layout, each system schematic or each technical document submitted in respect of a new ship or modifications to an existing ship of a class set out in column I of an item of the table to this section is the fee set out in column II of the item, and the maximum fee payable in respect of the ship is the fee set out in column III of that item.

  • (2) The fee set out in subsection (1) is not payable in respect of an identical sister ship whose keel is laid, or is at a similar stage of construction, within 18 months of the keel laying of the original ship.

  • (3) The fee payable for the examination or approval of a second and each subsequent submission of each plan, each diagrammatic layout, each system schematic or each technical document submitted in respect of a new ship or modifications to an existing ship of a class set out in column I of an item of the table to this section is one half of the fee set out in column II of the item, with no maximum fee.

  • (4) Where a non-passenger ship or fishing vessel is designed to carry passengers, it shall be considered to be a passenger vessel for the purposes of this section.

  •  (1) The fee payable for the examination or approval of a first submission of the plans and related technical documents for a component set out in column I of an item of the table to this section for use on a ship is the fee set out in column II of the item.

  • (2) The fee payable for the examination or approval of a second and each subsequent submission of the plans and related technical documents for a component set out in column I of an item of the table to this section for use on a ship is one half of the fee set out in column II of the item.

 Where more than four copies of a plan, diagrammatic layout, system schematic or technical document are submitted for examination or approval, the fee payable for each additional copy, in respect of a ship of a class set out in column I of an item of the table to section 22 or a component set out in column I of an item of the table to section 22.1 for use on a ship, is one quarter of the fee set out in column II of the item, with no maximum fee.

PART VILoad Line Surveys

Issue and Renewal of Load Line Certificates and Annual Load Line Surveys

 In this Part,

classed ship

classed ship means a ship that is classed with a classification society approved by the Minister; (navire classé)

unclassed ship

unclassed ship means a ship other than a classed ship. (navire non classé)

 Subject to section 25,

  • (a) the fee for a Load Line survey made prior to issuing a Load Line Certificate for a classed ship having a gross tonnage referred to in an item set out in Column I of the table to this section is the amount set out for that item in Column II of the table;

  • (b) the fee for annual Load Line survey of a classed ship having a gross tonnage referred to in an item set out in Column I of the table to this section or for a Load Line survey made prior to renewing a Load Line Certificate for such a ship, is the amount set out for that item in Column III of the table;

  • (c) the fee for a Load Line survey made prior to issuing or renewing a Load Line Certificate for an unclassed ship having a gross tonnage referred to in an item set out in Column I of the table to this section is the amount set out for that item in Column IV of the table; and

  • (d) the fee for an annual Load Line survey of an unclassed ship having a gross tonnage referred to in an item set out in Column I of the table to this section is the amount set out for that item in Column V of the table.

  •  (1) For each annual Load Line survey of a ship, a fee of $100 is payable for a second and each subsequent visit by an inspector for the purposes of the survey.

  • (2) and (3) [Repealed, SOR/97-486, s. 19]

  • (4) Where minor alterations have been made to a ship, having a Load Line Certificate in force, that involve an alteration of the freeboard but do not require a full Load Line survey, the fee for a classed or unclassed ship is an amount equal to the amount of the fee required for that ship in Column III of the table to section 24.

  • (5) Where for special reasons a partial Load Line survey is made and a Load Line Certificate is issued or renewed for a period not exceeding 12 months, the fee is an amount equal to one-half the amount of the fee specified in Column II, III or IV of the table to section 24, as the case may be.
