A Proclamation

Whereas, pursuant to section 6 of the Canada-Zambia Income Tax Convention Act, 1984, assented to on June 20, 1985, being Part I of chapter 23 of the Statutes of Canada, 1985, notice of the day the Convention between Canada and the Republic of Zambia for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to Taxes on Income (hereinafter referred to as “the Convention”) comes into force shall be given by proclamation of the Governor in Council published in the Canada Gazette;

And Whereas, pursuant to Article XXVIII of the Convention, the Convention shall be ratified and the instruments of ratification shall be exchanged at Ottawa and the Convention shall enter into force upon the exchange of the instruments of ratification;

And Whereas the instruments of ratification were exchanged at Ottawa on December 28, 1989 and the Convention entered into force on that day;

Now Know You that We, by and with the advice of Our Privy Council for Canada, do by this Our Proclamation give notice that the Convention between Canada and the Republic of Zambia for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to Taxes on Income came into force on December 28, 1989.

Of All Which Our Loving Subjects and all others whom these Presents may concern are hereby required to take notice and to govern themselves accordingly.

In Testimony Whereof, We have caused these Our Letters to be made Patent and the Great Seal of Canada to be hereunto affixed. Witness: Our Right Trusty and Well-beloved Ramon John Hnatyshyn, a Member of Our Privy Council for Canada, Chancellor and Principal Companion of Our Order of Canada, Chancellor and Commander of Our Order of Military Merit, One of Our Counsel learned in the law, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada.

At Our Government House, in Our City of Ottawa, this thirty-first day of January in the year of Our Lord one thousand nine hundred and ninety-one and in the thirty-ninth year of Our Reign.
