Whereas the Governor in Council is of the opinion that the cost of replacing a Social Insurance Number Card should be borne by the holder of the Card, except where the replacement is made as a result of a legal change in the name of the holder, an error made by an official of the Government of Canada in the exercise of the official's duties or a natural disaster;
Therefore, Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Employment and Immigration and the Treasury Board, pursuant to paragraph 13(b) of the Financial Administration Act, is pleased hereby to revoke Order in Council P.C. 1985-1740 of May 30, 1985* and to authorize the Minister of Employment and Immigration to prescribe by order the fee or charge to be paid by the holder of a Social Insurance Number Card for the replacement of that Card, except where the replacement is made as a result of a legal change in the name of the holder, an error made by an official of the Government of Canada in the exercise of the official's duties or a natural disaster.
