An Act respecting a national day of remembrance and action on violence against women
WHEREAS on December 6, 1989, fourteen women died as a result of a massacre at the University of Montreal;
AND WHEREAS it is important to denounce violence against women;
AND WHEREAS the Canadian people wish to reflect on the event in the hope of preventing further violence against women;
NOW, THEREFORE, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the National Day of Remembrance Act.

2 Throughout Canada, in each and every year, the 6th day of December shall be known under the name of "National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women".
