An Act respecting a national day of remembrance and action on violence against women

WHEREAS on December 6, 1989, fourteen women died as a result of a massacre at the University of Montreal;

AND WHEREAS it is important to denounce violence against women;

AND WHEREAS the Canadian people wish to reflect on the event in the hope of preventing further violence against women;

NOW, THEREFORE, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

 This Act may be cited as the National Day of Remembrance Act.

 Throughout Canada, in each and every year, the 6th day of December shall be known under the name of "National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women".
