Regulations Respecting an Exemption from the Operation of Section 14 of the Export and Import Permits Act for Certain Beef and Veal Imports

His Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Secretary of State for External Affairs, pursuant to paragraph 12(e) of the Export and Import Permits Act, is pleased hereby to make the annexed Regulations respecting an exemption from the operation of section 14 of the Export and Import Permits Act for certain beef and veal imports.

Short Title

 These Regulations may be cited as the Exemption Regulations (Beef and Veal Imports).

Interpretation

 In these Regulations,

Act

Act means the Export and Import Permits Act; (Loi)

bonded warehouse

bonded warehouse has the same meaning as in subsection 2(1) of the Customs Act; (entrepôt de stockage)

release

release has the same meaning as in subsection 2(1) of the Customs Act. (dédouanement)

General

 Any person who is a resident of Canada and who imports into Canada any of the goods set out in items 114 to 116 of the Import Control List without an import permit issued pursuant to subsection 8.3(1) or (3) of the Act is exempt from the operation of section 14 of the Act in respect of that importation where the person

  • (a) stores the goods in a bonded warehouse in accordance with the Customs Act; and

  • (b) sells or otherwise transfers the goods to a holder of an import permit issued under subsection 8(1.1) or 8.3(1) or (3) of the Act before the goods are released.
