Regulations Prescribing the Limit of Liability in Respect of a Spill or Debris from Oil or Gas Exploration or Production Activity in the Nova Scotia Offshore Area

Whereas, pursuant to subsection 154(1) of the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Resources Accord Implementation ActFootnote *, a copy of proposed Regulations prescribing the limit of liability in respect of a spill or debris from oil or gas exploration or production activity in the Nova Scotia offshore area, substantially in the form set out in the annexed regulations, was published in the Canada Gazette Part I on September 24, 1994, and a reasonable opportunity was thereby afforded to interested persons to make representations to the Minister of Natural Resources with respect thereto;

And Whereas, pursuant to section 6 of the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Resources Accord Implementation ActFootnote *, the Minister of Natural Resources has consulted the Provincial Minister with respect to the proposed Regulations and the Provincial Minister has approved the making of those Regulations;

Therefore, His Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Natural Resources, pursuant to subsection 153(1)Footnote ** and section 167Footnote *** of the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Resources Accord Implementation ActFootnote *, is pleased hereby to make the annexed Regulations prescribing the limit of liability in respect of a spill or debris from oil or gas exploration or production activity in the Nova Scotia offshore area.

Short Title

 These Regulations may be cited as the Canada-Nova Scotia Oil and Gas Spills and Debris Liability Regulations.

Limit of Liability

 For the purposes of section 167 of the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Resources Accord Implementation Act, the limit of liability is thirty million dollars.
