Regulations Respecting Hygiene in Relation to Railways

The Canadian Transport Commission, pursuant to section 227 of the Railway Act, hereby revokes the Railway Hygiene Regulations, C.R.C., c. 1168, and makes the annexed Regulations respecting Hygiene in relation to Railways in substitution therefor.

Short Title

 These Regulations may be cited as the Railway Hygiene Regulations.

General

 Every railway company shall

  • (a) maintain all its

    • (i) passenger stations, and

    • (ii) waiting rooms,

    and toilet and lavatory facilities therein, in a clean and sanitary condition with proper ventilation;

  • (b) maintain all its passenger carrying cars, when in service, including the toilet and lavatory facilities therein, in a clean and sanitary condition with proper ventilation, heat and lights; and

  • (c) provide and maintain ash receptacles in its

    • (i) passenger carrying cars, when those cars are in service,

    • (ii) passenger stations, and

    • (iii) waiting rooms,

    and in the toilet and lavatory facilities therein.
