Short Title

1 These Regulations may be cited as the Sugar Beet Stabilization Regulations, 1981.

Interpretation

2 In these Regulations,

Act

Act means the Agricultural Stabilization Act; (Loi)

Board

Board means the Agricultural Stabilization Board as established by the Act; (Office)

producer

producer means a person residing in Canada and producing sugar beets in Canada; (producteur)

production unit

production unit means any two or more producers organized as a partnership, cooperative or corporation for the purpose of producing sugar beets; (unité de production)

standard tonne

standard tonne means the quantity of raw sugar beets required to produce 125 kilograms of refined sugar; (tonne standard)

sugar beets

sugar beets means sugar beets grown in Canada in 1981 and delivered to sugar beet refineries on or before December 31, 1981. (betterave à sucre)

Designated Commodity

3 Sugar beets are hereby designated as an agricultural commodity for the purposes of the Act.

Prescribed Percentage

4 For the purpose of determining the prescribed price of sugar beets for the calendar year 1981, the percentage of the base price of sugar beets for that year is hereby prescribed to be 90 per cent.

Prescribed Price

5 The prescribed price of sugar beets for the calendar year 1981 shall be the amount obtained by adjusting 90 per cent of the base price of sugar beets for that year by the index applicable thereto, calculated in the manner set out in the Production Cost Index Regulations.

Payment to Producers

6 Subject to section 7, the Board may, pursuant to paragraph 10(1)(b) of the Act, make payments to producers of $5.66 per standard tonne up to a maximum of 4 500 standard tonnes per producer.

7 Where producers are carrying on business in the production unit, the Board may make payments to that production unit but such payments shall not, in the aggregate, exceed three times the maximum payable by the Board under section 6.
